The Problem
Prior to the installation and commisioning of transmitting equipment, Sky Tower Engineers (Auckland New Zealand) used the Xdetech to locate active intermodulation trouble areas.
The Solution
Xdetech identified areas of concern. Staff were able to immediately start eliminating the intermodulation sources. Trouble intermodulation areas of walk platforms, brackets, mounts, lighting equipment, earthing clamps, rail lock system, antenna supports and even reinforcing in the concrete were identified accurately.

Low Revenue VHF Site

The Problem
A low revenue VHF site with mixed linking services had intermittent interference from another on site VHF user.
The owner was reluctant to spend more money on another fruitless search for the source of the problem.
The Solution
Xdetech was handed to a rigger who had not used it before and who had no training in electronics work. Within half an hour he found the prime source of intermodulation, a structural beam some 2 meters from the VHF aerial.
Xdetech also identified a metal banding system causing further problems. The bands were removed and the rest of the site tested clean. No further problems with the site as the intermodulation source had been removed.

There wasn't one until Xdetech was used to sweep five new antennas. While the test sweep results were good, two of the antennas showed a higher than normal level of third order intermodulation mixing.
In one antenna, this level changed with temperature variations.

The new, but faulty, antennas were returned to the manufacturer prior to the expense and inconvenience of installation, saving thousands of dollars.
